Let’s Celebrate National School Counseling Week!

As we all know, the mental health of our children is of utmost importance. It has been reported that one in six children in this country between the ages of 6 and 17 experience a mental health disorder each year. Unfortunately, about half of these youths will not receive the needed treatment. This is where school counselors play a vital role.

Undiagnosed and untreated mental health illnesses can have a significant negative impact on a child's ability to learn, grow, and develop. With children spending most of their time in school, school counselors are in the perfect position to provide the help and support they need. School-based mental health services remove barriers to treatment and ensure that students receive the assistance they require.

During these times of disruption and uncertainty caused by lockdowns and mandates, school counselors have been there for our children, helping them navigate through these challenges and providing them with the relief they need to thrive and succeed.

This year, let's take a moment to give our local heroes - the school counselors - the attention and gratitude they deserve for their tireless efforts in identifying and addressing children's mental and emotional needs in the school setting.
